Super Junior (Korean: 슈퍼주니어) is a eleven member boy group under SM Entertainment and Label SJ, however due to military services there are only six active members as of January 2016. Super Junior originally debuted as a twelve-member South Korean boy group with a rotational concept under the name Super Junior 05 in the year 2005. However a year after their debut, the company decided to abandon the concept by adding a new member Kyuhyun. Dropping the suffix 05, in the year 2006 Super Junior became a thirteen-member South Korean boy group. In the year 2009 however, Hangeng filed for contract termination from SM Entertainment, due to harsh and disrespectful treatments. And Kibum went on hiatus for group promotions in order to focus on his acting career. December 21, 2010 Hangeng wins the lawsuit, officially leaves SM Entertainment, making Super Junior a twelve-member group. May 20, 2015 Kibum and Hangeng’s profile was added to SMTOWN’s official application, listed as a member of Super Junior; what will happen next is still unknown. On August 20th it was announced that Kibum’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment has came to an end, therefore Kibum will officially leave the group as well as the agency! Super Junior’s official fanclub, named by leader Leeteuk, is E.L.F (Ever Lasting Friends) and their official color is Sapphire Blue.
They officially debuted with the release of their first digital single “Twins (Knock Out)” on November 08, 2005. And held their debut stage on SBS’ Inkigayo with their debut track of the same name on November 06, 2005, two days before their digital single was released.
On November 6th 2015, the group released their first official Label SJ under SM Entertainment. Label SJ will be the group’s own official label, and will manage the group’s activities as well as their members’ solo activities.
